Hello, I'm Mary, a college Sophomore History major. For as long as I can recall, I've always had to be doing something. My hands have always had to be busy. Of course, I did lots of various crafts as a child, but Junior High is when I first taught myself how to sew in order to make cosplays. Since then, I've deviated from cosplay and make my own clothes. I was accepted to FIT, the best fashion design school in the US, but decided not to attend because I received too much scholarship money in-state.

Three and a half years ago, my brother got a DDR machine. For the summer, it stayed in our garage, and I got pretty darn good by the end. My brother then took it with him to his college apartment. Throughout this, we were also looking for a Pump It Up Machine (basically the Korean equivalent to Dance Dance Revolution) and it currently sits in my brother's house. I'm not anywhere near good enough to compete, but I'm at the perfect level to get the max exercise and to impress people, haha.

Three years ago, my father bought me an iPad. I figured that I was obligated to learn to draw, so I taught myself basic digital drawing (I'm not that good as you can see, lol). My Senior year, I realized that I hate medical science, so I dropped my anatomy class and took art instead. Early 2024, due to extreme insomnia, I taught myself charcoal drawing, and I quickly realized its one of my best skills. I'm basically always in the process of making something. Most of my free time goes towards listening to metal and sewing clothes.

I've played guitar for about 10 years and I've played flute for 8 years, the latter of which I find much more fun to play. I considered a music degree, but I'm a little too nervous to play in front of people. I was in marching band for 4 years. My favorite music genres have always been rock and metal, not really influenced by anyone other than my own curiousity. I hate core metal and Nu Metal. My favorite bands are Carcass, Dissection, Darkthrone, WASP, and KISS. I also really like cute things and the K-pop group NCT. Thank you for looking at my page! ^^ There's much more about me I'll put here, but I know people tend to skim through about pages.

FAQ

"Why is your website so cute if you like metal?" -- Well, I honestly hate "aesthetics" in general. I don't really try to force a cohesiveness to anything I do. I abhore goth and just don't like all black websites. I like cute things and I think that this is the nicest looking site design I could come up with.

"Are you goth? Emo? E-girl?" --Like I explained above, I absolutely hate aesthetics. If you look at any of the clothes I make, you'll know that I'm very diverse with my looks and interests. I am not heavily invested in the internet and social media, so I'm disconnected from any alternative culture group. I'm only interested in the old metal scene.

FAQ2

"I bet you got your music taste from Tik Tok" -- I don't use any social media (that's why I'm here), and abhore streaming services. I find bands organically, and started a natural music progression, going from punk, to classic heavy metal, to thrash, to black/death. None of that trendy core garbage. I find bands by reading scans of old fanzines.

"Why do you dress the way you do?" I really don't know either. I just really like clothes and I don't force myself to only stick with one thing. I also would absolutely never dress how an American college girl would dress.

I made my first neocities site back in summer 2019. It was nothing more than a one-day 90s site and not coded with any css. Late 2021, I made another joke site, but it was a bit better. You can still access this one via the transcend tab. Shortly thereafter, I started working on an actually good site. This can also be accessed the same way. My senior year, Jopping became an inside joke in my calculus class. My teacher (who is awesome, btw) went along with it and I was like "what if I bought Jopping.net?" The rest is history. I had some trouble figuring out a layout I liked for a while and I recently just developed it.

Pretty much as long as I can remember, I always loved Asian style clothes and was jealous of the uniforms that my cousins overseas had. Honestly, depending on the day, I feel like dressing more metal or more cutesy (I know there's probably better terms for this, but whatever). The way I dress depends a lot on the weather and time of the year. The way I dress had REALLY made me stand out for better or worse, but it was soley because it made me comfortable. My favorite thing in fashion, and this is what my brand identity would have been, had I stayed in the fashion industry, is unique jackets. I often get asked why I don't make every piece of what I wear. To that, I say it's time and availability. I can buy a white button up and I don't really like making pants. Jackets are what makes an outfit unique and what I usually make. You can see the things I've made on the Designs page. The red jacket is what got me accepted to FIT.

Though my father is Vietnamese, he was born in California and hasn't spent more than a week in the country. My grandfather was a DIA agent and, from my understanding, his job was to find missing Americans in Asian countries. To name a few places, they've lived in Hawaii, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, and they've spent some time in basically everywhere nearby. As such, I live in a mixture of all these cultures and haven't felt more attached to one more than another.

You've probably seen him somewhere on my site. This is Taeyong of NCT and SuperM. I've liked NCT for about 4 years because a different member, Shotaro, is from the same semi-small town in Japan where my father used to live. I was going to see NCT 127 January 13th of 2023. A few days before their US tour leg began, all members except Taeyong landed in America. He said that he had the flu, and I was freaking out thinking I wouldn't be able to see him. The day of their first show, he flew in. When I finally got to see them, I was blown away by how amazing his stage presence was, all while still recovering from jet lag, the flu, and a back injury. If you've clicked on the music page, you'll know I'm much more of a metalhead, but I appreciate some groups because of their fashion and the dancing. Oh, and Jopping is one of the more stupid songs he is in, and that's where the name comes from. haha.

Without a doubt, the highlight of high school for me was my Senior year Cal BC teacher. Not only did he teach very well, he was super funny and someone you could joke around with. The first thing you'll notice in his room is that there are large posters with quotes of things he has said such as "I'm about to Jopp on people's heads like Mario on a goomba", "I want you to suffer", "I'm medicated, it's okay." Since we live in a post-covid world, all of his lectures are recorded and we would always try to get him off topic or say something funny. He put up with me and my friend's stupid conversations. Every day, we'd be talking about something stupid. To give an example, we talked about how we could dump 999 pounds of oil into the ocean because if you round that to the nearest ton, that is 0 tons of oil. A classmate put up a football calender, and our sports teams do not have a great reputation, so I would cover the calender with NCT posters. I started the inside joke of Jopping in his class, and he would let me put my drawings at the very front of his board. Awesome teacher. Completely changed my mind about the education system.
